Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 6 oz dark chocolate, chopped
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
- 1/2 cup homemade or store-bought salted caramel sauce
- Flaky sea salt, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
- Melt butter and dark chocolate together in a double boiler or microwave, stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs until pale and frothy.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and the cooled chocolate mixture.
- Sift in cocoa powder, flour, and sea salt. Fold gently until just combined—do not overmix.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the batter in a zig-zag pattern.
- Pour the remaining batter on top and repeat the caramel drizzle.
- Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the caramel into the batter for a marbled effect.
- Sprinkle with flaky sea salt and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
Notes
Let the caramel cool slightly before swirling into the batter to avoid it sinking. Don’t overbake—look for moist crumbs on the toothpick, not clean. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
